Overview
HeyBookMe's PAYG plan is free to subscribe to. To cover the cost of running the service, we deduct a small platform fee from each transaction processed on a PAYG account. The Pro plan has no platform fees.
What is a platform fee?
When a client makes a booking or purchases a pass on a PAYG account, HeyBookMe deducts a percentage of the transaction value as a platform fee. This is deducted automatically before the funds reach your Stripe payout - you don't need to do anything. We'll send you an invoice on the 1st of each month showing the feeds charged in the previous month.
The platform fees that apply to your account are shown in your account under Settings > Your subscription.
Platform fees vs Stripe fees
There are two separate fees on any paid booking:
- HeyBookMe platform fee - only applies on the PAYG plan. A percentage of the transaction value. Waived entirely on Pro.
- Stripe transaction fee - applies regardless of your HeyBookMe plan. Stripe's standard rate for UK cards is 1.5% + 20p per transaction. This is charged by Stripe, not HeyBookMe, and covers card processing, fraud prevention and PCI compliance.
If your studio processes a significant volume of bookings each month, upgrading to Pro can save more in platform fees than it costs in subscription fees - and you unlock passes, discount codes and much more at the same time. See our pricing page to compare.
Where platform fees appear in reporting
Your revenue reports in HeyBookMe show gross revenue (the full amount your clients paid) without platform fees. You'll receive an invoice every month showing the platform fees we've charged, but if you want to check on it mid-month, you can always access the information under Reports > Platform fees.
Can I pass the fee on to clients?
No. Platform fees are deducted from the amount you receive - they cannot be added as a surcharge to client payments. When you set a class price of £12, your client pays £12 and you receive that minus the platform fee and the Stripe fee.
How are platform fees calculated?
The final platform fee deducted from a transaction is based on:
- The total transaction value
- The application fee % rate of your plan
- The minimum application fee of your plan
- The maximum application fee of your plan
The calculation is worked out as transaction value X application fee %. If the resulting value is lower than the minimum fee on your account, then the platform fee will be the minimum fee. If the resulting value is higher than the maximum fee on your plan, the platform fee will be the maximum fee.
Examples
You are on the PAYG plan which has a 1% application fee with a minimum of £0.10 and a maximum of £1.00.
Example 1 - £8.00 purchase
£8.00 X 1% = £0.08. As 8p is less than the 10p minimum fee, the platform fee deducted will be the 10p minimum fee.
Example 2 - £18.00 purchase
£18.00 X 1% = £0.18. As 18p is above the 10p minimum fee, and below the maximum fee the platform fee deducted will be 18p.
Example 3 - £110.00 purchase
£110.00 X 1% = £1.10. As £1.10 is above the £1.00 maximum fee, the fee deducted will be the £1.00 maximum fee.
